We have approximately 25 members on the PAAD’s executive council who serve as our writers, reviewers, and editors. I thought it was high time that I introduce them to you and have asked them to submit a head shot photo and short bio. I will introduce all of them to you over the next few weeks.
Today we are featuring our primary education reviewers. Myron Yaster MD
Justin L. Lockman, MD, MSEd is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and clinically practices as attending physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in both Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Anesthesiology. He serves as the Education Leader for his Department. Justin has always been passionate about education, and in addition to serving on the PAAD Executive Council he is a past president of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Program Directors’ Association. Justin is also a husband, father, triathlete, and jazz pianist (with several albums).
Alan Jay Schwartz, MD, MSEd is Adjunct Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr Schwartz was a Senior Anesthesiologist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He was the CHOP Anesthesiology Department Director of Education and Director of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship. His clinical practice included pediatric anesthesia patient care and adult and pediatric cardiac anesthesia. Dr Schwartz is currently retired from clinical practice.
Dr Schwartz served as President of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (1993-1995). He has provided and taught anesthesia patient care in Guatemala, China, Israel and Mexico. Dr Schwartz’s editorial accomplishments include Editor-in-Chief of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Self Education and Evaluation Program and Refresher Course Publication and Associate Editor of ANESTHESIOLOGY. He is Associate Editor of ANESTHESIOLOGY and member of the Editorial Board of The Pharos.
Aditee Parag Ambardekar, M.D, MSEd is a a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She serves as the department’s Residency Program Director and practices clinically at Parkland Hospital and Children’s Health, Dallas. She has expertise in pediatric burn anesthesia.
Dr. Ambardekar earned her medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania. She then received advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and her Master’s in Education at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
Her research interests include pediatric burn anesthesia, medical education, and simulation-based education. She served as a volunteer with the ACGME’s Anesthesiology Review Committee from 2016 to 2023 and held the title of Chair of the Committee from 2020-2023. Dr. Ambardekar also serves as an Examiner for the The American Board of Anesthesiology’s Applied Exam.
Dr. Ambardekar holds the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management’s Distinguished Teaching Professorship.
