Dr. Ethan Sanford is a dual trained Pediatric Intensivist and Pediatric Anesthesiologist at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School then completed pediatric residency in the Boston Combined Program and anesthesiology residency at Brigham and Women’s prior to pediatric anesthesia fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital. He returned home to Texas to complete pediatric critical care training at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
As the Program Director for Pediatric ECMO, Ethan works with multidisciplinary groups to determine best practices and continuously evaluate the care of critically ill children. Additionally, Ethan serves as a member of the pediatric liver transplant, craniofacial, and neurosurgical anesthesia groups focusing on the care of children undergoing high risk surgeries.
Academically, Ethan works with a group of bioengineers, mathematicians, and statisticians to guide the development of novel brain health monitors on ECMO. His work is aimed not only towards improving the survival of sick children, but also allow the best possible neurologic outcome after severe illness. Ethan also contributes to studies on racial differences in critical care and anesthesia. Ethan enjoys science fiction novels especially the works of Ted Chiang. He is an aggravated Cowboys fan and an enthusiastic Spurs fan. Justin L. Lockman, MD, MSEd (at the piano) is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and clinically practices as attending physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in both Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Anesthesiology. He serves as the Education Leader for his Department. Justin has always been passionate about education, and in addition to serving on the PAAD Executive Council he is a past president of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Program Directors’ Association. Justin is also a husband, father, triathlete, and jazz pianist (with several albums).
Dr. Shawn Jackson is a staff physician at Boston Children’s Hospital who practices in both pediatric critical care medicine and pediatric anesthesiology. His research interests center on elucidating interactions between sedation, neurotoxicity, and long-term outcomes in critically ill children. His clinical time is divided between the ICU and OR, where his interests include transplant anesthesia, critical care transport, and anesthetics for high-risk ICU patients.
