“Overview of Regional Techniques in Pediatric Pain Management” Anita A. Ali, MD, MPH and Thejovathi Edala, MD
A common question often arises when performing a regional anesthetic technique: “How much and which local anesthetic should I inject”? Here are the Tables (and I’d like to thank the authors for providing them to me) from the article. I’m hoping that many of you may find them handy. I don’t want to quibble. Indeed, these numbers look pretty good to me. Personally, I like to add epinephrine for higher volume blocks as a marker of intravascular injection (peaked T wave on ECG) and use 0.3-0.4 mL as the minimum volume for a baby spinal, regardless of the drug, but that’s me. Further, I’m sure that many of you may disagree with some of these recommendations, perhaps vociferously. If you do, please comment in the PAAD when this is posted. Finally, I know that several institutions make handy dandy quick reference cards for residents, fellows, and faculty. This may be of value in your next editions. Myron Yaster MD
