Wayne Nates MBChB, DA(SA), FCA(SA), FRCPC, EDAIC found an error in the recent PAAD on the use of inhaled TXA in the treatment of post tonsillar hemorrhage….is the dose for patients < 25 kg 25 mg or 250 mg per inhaled dose?
I double checked the article. The article states and we reprinted: "Weight based doses were 250 mg (0.25 mL) for patients less than 25 kg and 500 mg (0.5 mL) for over 25 kg." However, the concentration of TXA 1,000 mg/10mL or 100 mg/mL...Thus, the dose per inhalation was 25 mg and not the 250 as stated. Alternatively, if the dose given was 2.5 mL per inhalation (typical volume) then the dose would be 250 mg.
Thus, I do not know what the dose used in the article actually is. I have sent an email to the author and will post his response as soon as I get it. In the interim, I would delay using this technique until the dose used in the article is clarified. MY.
